Treasure Valley’s 2007 Most Courageous Volunteer: Trevor Smith

The Idaho Statesman editorial board selected five people from the Treasure Valley who showed extraordinary leadership or positive influence over the past year. Because of his spirit for creating positive change and his grown-up attitude, the board selected Trevor as most courageous out of all of Treasure Valley’s some 600,000 people.

At age 18, Trevor feels lucky to have survived a brutal battle with cancer and is now committed to making the world better for other children battling similar diseases. Trevor has devoted much of his time this past year to being a volunteer and public speaker, and has launched several new projects, all in efforts to help fight cancer. He has written to Idaho and California lawmakers asking for more research funding. He has helped write a book about his life. He is a member of a newly formed organization that investigates cancer clusters and what might cause them. He is continuing to help out the Treasure Valley by being a courageous volunteer.

Trevor was granted a wish when he was 13 by Make-A-Wish Foundation and now is a very dedicated volunteer. He’s currently helping implement “Kids For Wish Kids”, a fundraising program to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Stories of Light Launch!

The Idaho Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation would like to introduce our 20 Stories of Light blog. Here you will be able to read from children, parents, and supporters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Each one of the 20 Idaho Make-A-Wish children have an inspirational story to share that will warm your heart and touch your soul. These stories will be written by the actual children and parents … from their viewpoint and their experience.

The completion of a wish will be represented by lighting a building floor for each $5,000 donation received. Take the time to read these stories, comment, and pass along to others. Make a difference this holiday season by participating online and offline in the Stories of Light campaign.

Thank you!
